The growing cities of the Middle Ages were unsafe, dirty, and unhealthy. Beginning in 1347, the black death swept through Europe. The plague began in began in Asia and spread along busy trade routes. It entered ports by way of trading ships. Black rats on the ships carried the disease. The plague was spread to people by bites from fleas on the rats.

Langston Hughes
-Langston Hughes was a writer and a poet.
-He wrote The Weary Blues in 1926.
-He received numerous fellowships,awards and honorary degrees.
-He wrote The Big Sea and it was an autobiography in 1940.
-He wrote Simple Speaks His Mind in 1950
